Holy Rose Garden - Little Thoughts from God's Meadow: Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

John Donne lived his words about marriage and the deep love that he shared with his wife Anne lasted beyond death. He regarded holy matrimony as a sacred living agreement between God and the two souls, whom He has joined in heaven and who become one in flesh before Him through this beautiful sacrament. In holy matrimony these two souls worship each other with their bodies and become together espoused to Christ in His church, as they lead by example a holy life as husband and wife, rooted in the sacraments and by the grace of God are being entrusted children of their own to raise them as angels on earth in this marriage. He reminded the church of God's commandment to raise as many children as holy children as possible. To be fruitful and to multiply means to offer to God one's selfless gift of parenthood, and to shower His love upon one's children and bring them up to His glory. This is by all means a very daunting task even in the best of times as the responsibility and desire to always make the right decisions on behalf of another life that belongs to God is constantly on our conscience. Holy matrimony is the most beautiful gift of God to man as it is encompassing all His ways of holiness, if we take up His offer to be joined together by Him in the presence of all of heaven and to radiate His light as two in one. Often we confuse the emotions of falling in love with the true love that God gives us for our one and only spouse. Emotions are short-lived but true love has inscribed only purity and wants the highest good of the soul God joins us with. If we live in holy voluntary celibacy we are wrapped in the mystery of listening to Jesus' voice, who leads us to meet our spouse in the unseen worlds before we become one in flesh and we are being given the chance to get to know each other in a sacred room in God's mansion, so that we can avoid traps and challenges that the world throws at us and resolve all worries, anxieties and doubts we might feel. As men and women, who try to lead a holy life and have given vows, we must even marry the one spouse, God joins us with as He has known us even before we entered our mother's womb and He also knows, what and when it is best for us to live in celibacy or in holy matrimony.

Blessed be Jesus Christ. Blessed be His Holy Name. Blessed be His Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Blessed be all, who espouse themselves as husband and wife as one to His spiritual body as His bride, which is His church.

God bless you!
